Yep, another Duke blog.
I’ve been a Duke fan since 1982, the year I lived in Durham, North Carolina. Coming from Miami, Florida where there was no basketball (No Heat, no magic and the Hurricanes didn’t have a basketball team) it was the first time I had ever seen a basketball game….and I’ve been hooked ever since.
I could easily brag that when I started liking the Devils, they weren’t very good, but then I wouldn’t be completely honest. Don’t get me wrong, they weren’t very good, but I was ten and I didn’t really know that. All I knew was that there were three teams; the Wolfpack, Tar Heels and the Blue Devils and it was obvious that I would cheer for my ‘hometown’ team. I didn’t know anything about any of the players, coaches or traditions. All I knew was it was the first basketball team I saw and I’ve been on the band wagon ever since.
25 years later, it’s hard to whine. No team has had more success than the Devils. I have to tell you though, I tend to get angry with all the hate. The crying, the whining, everyone’s gay! I have plenty of little theories and over time we’ll get to some, but it’s clearly everyone hates them because they are the Yankees, the Cowboys, the Notre Dame.
When I see Notre Dame football on NBC every Saturday and makes me sick. I take too much pleasure when I see them fail. That’s how I assume people feel about Duke basketball.
I’m a fan, so it’s pretty obvious what you’re going to see on this site. However, I won’t ever be afraid to speak the truth, even if I don’t want to hear it myself.
