Carolina, Classless as Always

Congratulations to the 2008-2009 North Carolina Tar Heels. They were a great team and they had a hell of a tournament run. I hate the Tar Heels, but you can’t deny them their props.

However, former Tar Holes remain classless like always.

Even in their team’s finest moment, they still can only think of us. How sweet.

For the record, Vince Carter, Antawn Jamison, Julius Peppers (in football) and Makhtar Ndiaye (holding the sign) produced a total of ZERO championships for North Carolina. Yep, that’s ZERO titles.

As for Ndiaye, it must have been nice to see some real players step up in the big moment. He wouldn’t know it from experience of course. In his one Final Four appearance, he started for a Carolina team that was upset by Utah. His game stats…ZERO points (0-3 shooting), two rebounds and five fouls.

If he still doesn’t ring a bell, as a commentator below reminded me, he was the disgraced Tar Heel who lied after the Utah defeat, claiming a white UTAH player called him racist names, and then admitted afterwards he made it all up.

He’s also the guy who, after his career at UNC ended, was arrested for attacking/beating/choking a ‘friend’ who gave him a ride to Raleigh.

Eventually, this class act had a brief NBA career, but ended up blaming the end of it on stewardess. Yep, you read that correctly.

Don’t forget: Ndiaye disgraced UNC by accusing a Utah player of making a racial slur, only to retract that claim later.

Thanks for the tally of ZERO titles!

It must be nice for old Makhtar to hold a sign in front of him that doesn’t have a series of numbers in front of it. Also I think he looks better in blue than orange.

That is hilarious. Just can’t get Duke off their minds can they? I love to see Vince Carter’s face there laughing as if he achieved anything in his college career.

Funny to hear dookies still upset about losing in the tournament before they wanted to. Im sure reddick has accomplished a lot with his game, and if anyone on here wants to talk about class. Try looking back at tapes of Dook fans yelling slurs at Tywon Lawson and Tyler Hansbrough. Its good for yall that Duke’s illustrious basketball tradition and high expectations always drives them far in the tournament.

Comment by Vince

Uh, where to begin Vince.

First, Reddick is spelled with one ‘D’, not two. Second, I’m not sure what Redick has to do with any of this. Redick was no more a trash talker than any other talented shooting guard (McCants, anyone?). Did he hold up his hand an extra second when he hit a big three? Sure, but so does Ellington. SG’s are the wide receivers of basketball…they tend to be a little bit more cocky. The last time I checked, the classy Redick was calling Hansbrough, giving him advice prior to Tyler breaking the ACC scoring record.

Now obviously, you assume this post is the direct result of my frustration over Duke’s Sweet 16 defeat and Carolina’s championship run. Fair enough, but it doesn’t disprove my point.

You claim Duke fans have thrown slurs at Lawson and Hansbrough, yet offer no proof. Let’s see, they called Tyler a muppet and chanted “Ty fought the law, and the law won” at Lawson. Really, slurs? In fact, I recall Hansbrough in a recent interview compliment Blue Devils fans.

Now I’m sure over the years, some Duke fans have said some pretty stupid things (just as Carolina fans have), but when a fan is being a jackass, I tend not to condemn the whole institution. However, former players are held to a higher standard. Whether you are a current or former player, you’re still the face of the program.

It is just fitting that Makhtar, who proved himself to be an embarrassment to Carolina basketball, was the one holding the sign. This is the same guy who during a Carolina victory over Duke, jumped onto the scorers table and gave the ‘slit-throat’ sign to the student section. Again, class.

The point of this post was, in Carolina’s finest hour, you have a guy who hates Duke more than he loves his own team. Of course it’s Makhtar, so it’s not surprising.

My question for you would be…could you imagine any current Tar Heel ever doing this? I couldn’t and that’s why one group won a championship and the others didn’t.

Vince, what team would not be upset about losing in the tournament before they wanted to? That comment made no sense. Should we be glad Duke lost before they were supposed to?

So Redick has no class because his pro career has been worthless? That doesn’t make sense either.

Class has nothing to do with success in the NCAA Tournament.

Robioland?

“This is the same guy who during a Carolina victory over Duke, jumped onto the scorers table and gave the ’slit-throat’ sign to the student section. Again, class.”

Hilarious, especially considering THESE are the same fans who taunt Phil Ford b/c his wife was messing around on him. Who called players orphans who lost their parents.

Sorry my friend, the Cameron Crazies don’t get the cry about ANYTHING an opposing player does.

Cameron Crazies chanting “Orphan Orphan” at Scott Williams after His parents were involved in a murder suicide…..Stay classy Durham

Sorry buddy, just like Ndiaye’s racist Utah player, this story about the Cameron Crazies chanting “Orphan” to Scott Williams is a lie. It’s only a myth, run ragged over and over through anti-Duke web sites, and picked up by random blogs.

Scott Williams has never said it happened. Not once. You won’t be able to find single legit news source to verify it. None.

In fact, the same lie got started about Dixon of Maryland, but again, it didn’t happen.

There are dozens of articles about the creativity (or lack of) of the Cameron Crazies and the Orphan story only shows up in the comments sections by lonely Carolina faithful.

Don’t you think if it did happen, it would end up on lists like this:

UNC is the G.O.A.T.

Loved these – http://espn.go.com/page2/s/cameron/hits.html. I was at the game after Steve Hale punctured a lung and the students were chanting inhale/exhale and yes, Hale laughed it off and had fun with it. I noticed they didn’t mention the ‘get a rope, get a tree, lets hang the referee’ chant
