Word on the street says that Duke forward, Gerald Henderson, is leaving college for the NBA…and he will be signing with an agent?
Gerald Henderson is also expected to announce he’s leaving college shortly, and is expected to hire an agent with strong ties to Duke.
WTF? I get the declaring yourself eligible for the NBA, but why sign with an agent? Any reasonable junior would declare so they can go workout with NBA scouts in Chicago. There he can be evaluate by the brightest minds in the NBA (much like Ellington, Green and Lawson did last year). Afterwards is when you make that final decision whether to return or not. If you decide not to, then you hire an agent.
This rumor doesn’t make a lot of sense. There’s is no harm in not hiring an agent now. However, as soon as he hires one, his college career is over, whether he bombs during the workouts or not.
We’ve said it before, we think Henderson is going to be a solid pro (assuming he remains healthy), but he needs more work. He still struggles to drive to his left, especially against real athletes and he doesn’t have NBA (three-point) range yet, which he’ll need since he’s only 6′4 and will be asked to play shooting guard.

Yup, one more year with the Blue Devils, and he’ll be a beast in the NBA.

The problem with going pro too soon is playing time. In most cases, NBA teams want immediate results, and if the player doesn’t produce right away, he’s going to sit the bench. He needs more work. Staying in school and playing is better than sitting on the bench in the pros.

why the heck is he going pro because he still has one more year left!! why can’t he be like jj redick and wait til he finishes college!! because he is the one that helps duke lead them through their trouble!! I bet he would still be offered a better deal maybe if he finishes college because he still has a little more time to practice! man he is one of my favorite players, but i geuss ima have to watch him on nba but i would like it for him to stay at duke for his last year!!! the only good thing next year is that duke is getting stephan currey’s brother and i heard he is really good. maybe henderson is not smart enough to stay with Mike because he is one of the best coaches ever. im just saying it would suck for duke, him, and us if gerald henderson left the duke blue devils.

G is going to test the waters but not with an agent! He has his father he doesn’t need an agent! G will return and he will work on his ball handling and three-point shooting over the off season. He will benefit from playing with John Wall if he does come to Duke. Word on the street is John Wall is coming to Duke!
